How to Post a Question on an Inventor Discussion Group

If you are new to posting on a discussion group, here are a few helpful tips that will assist you in getting a fast and accurate answer.

  • Describe your issue clearly in the Subject Line. Be specific.
  • Describe your problem fully. Provide as much information as possible, including your version and any affected files that support the question. See the right hand panel on this page for file attachment instructions.
  • DO NOT TYPE IN CAPS. This is poor posting etiquette
  • Go through all of the great tutorials that ship with Inventor.
  • Read the FAQ available at: http://www.kwikmcad.com/faq/faq.asp
  • Before asking a question that has probably already been asked, do a search on the newsgroup.
  • Google is your friend. Most answers to your questions are quickly found.
  • When posting, always include the version and service pack that you used. This information may be obtained from Help > About Autodesk Inventor...

  • If you are experiencing video problems or crashing of Inventor, then be sure to include your full system specifications including:
    • Operating system version and service pack and specify 32 or 64 bit.
    • Inventor version and service pack level.
    • Graphics card make and model, and current graphics driver version installed.
    • CPU speed, total installed RAM, and virtual memory size.
    • Antivirus version.
    • Other applications that are running concurrently with Inventor when the problem occurs.
    • Any other information that will be helpful, including the Inventor files in question.

How to Attach Files for Public Viewing and Access

To post on the Autodesk.Inventor discussion group, the file must be zipped and under 1.5 MB. You may upload files up to 100MB at AUGI.com.

To zip a file, either use a zip program or in XP, right mouse click in Windows Explorer (My Computer) and select the option: Send to Compressed (zipped) folder. To extract, RMC on a zip file and select the reverse

Individual part files (IPT) may be posted withou zipping. Larger part files: Drag the EOP (End of Part) marker to the top of the model browser before saving.

DWF files and Images do not need to be zipped to be attached. Use JPG or GIF fomats for smaller file sizes.

WHEN POSTING ASSEMBLY OR IDW/DWG FILES:

Make sure you include all part files along with the assembly (.iam) file. When posting IPN/IDW files, be sure to attach all related ipt and iam files as well. This is easily accomplished using the Pack and Go utility in Inventor.

Please notify in the specific thread where you asked the question when you have posted the files. Be sure to note the version of Inventor used and the filename/location.
