The Time is Now!
The current economic situation brings a combination of anxiety and uncertainty to every business on the planet. While it is difficult to predict the future, smart businesses use this time as an opportunity to re-evaluate their business plans and prepare for the eventual recovery.

Every recession experienced in the last 60 plus years has been followed by a period of unexpected rapid growth. Just as Winter prepares the soil, Spring provides a rebirth and rapid growth within nature. The same principle follows in business.

Now is the time to evaluate design and manufacturing practices with an eye to improving efficiency. Everyone understands that budgets may be limited at this point, but effort and expense in improving productivity and reducing costs now, will pay off in big benefits later.

Waiting until monetary situations improve will produce a situation where, when orders start flowing, there will be no time to do training for productivity. It will be too late then, to easily change or improve manufacturing or design processes.

One way to get ready for a return to normal is to examine your manufacturing processes from the engineering department all the way to the loading dock to determine how you can reduce costs and become more efficient in everything that you do. When times are busy, it's easy to just keep "rowing the boat" because you don't have time to step back and look at every single phase of your business.

Let's look at the engineering department at your company. If you are in the business of creating new models of machinery, then consider that properly utilizing 3-D modeling software for the purpose of digital prototyping will bring enormous benefits to your company. Digital prototyping means that you can prove out new designs without resorting to creating expensive prototypes. Not only is scrap and rework virtually eliminated, but the costs involved in extended engineering cycles and the requirement to actually physically build and test a prototype or a custom machine vastly reduced.

It's a proven fact that the benefits of 3-D modeling can only be attained by proper and extensive training of your design team. It does not matter whether you've been using the software for some time, or are just now embracing a new design paradigm. Having everyone on the team properly trained, with standards implemented ensures that you have consistency in design and communication.

Implementation of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in both the engineering and manufacturing departments is a key step to improving the quality of design. Manufacturing will benefit from reduced costs, because they will now have the ability to make the parts without costly communication errors. The assembly department will benefit as as well with a reduced number of Engineering Change Orders. Production shipping dates will also improve.

Now is the time to get your engineering house in order with quality training by seasoned industry professionals. If cash flow is an issue at this point, Tekni has a solution for you.
